INSTEDD: CDC Emergency Preparedness and Response

Regular Seekerblog readers know that we are fans of Larry Brilliant’s INSTEDD initiative.

One little fragment of their work is this public collaboration space — which looks promising as a concept. It obviously faces the Wikipedia challenge – how do you attract enough contributors to generate the critical mass of content [repeat] …

This looks like an embryo, but consider what Googlers could contribute to this effort!

Remember: Early Detection, Early Response!

As the CEO of InSTEDD I’m glad you’ve taken note of our Evolve space on CDC reports, but it’s not really designed for public contributions the way Wikipedia is. It’s more of a small-group tool, designed for a team of experts in various domains (physicians, vets, public health specialists, transportation coordinators, and so forth) to collaborate around an article or an event and share opinions. We think such cross-domain collaboration between a group of experts in near-real-time will lead to better decisions more rapidly, with more effective consequent action. We have a lot of these spaces now (the listings cover several pages), testing what works and what doesn’t with different groups. Watch the InSTEDD blogs for updates. And tell us what you like or don’t like about it. What should change? Why? Send it to Info@InSTEDD.org – we read everything, and act on a lot of what we read. Eric (www.InSTEDD.org)
