Health Care Mythology

Cliff Asness, Managing and Founding Principal of AQR Capital Management (bio) is taking a big risk — that of writing public criticism of Obama policy. Cliff’s site is organized in a non-standard way so I can’t link directly – but I will recommend his essay on health care myths. While is writing style is aggressively libertarian, he gets most of it right. And Cliff makes some good points that are rarely discussed — e.g. how the relatively-free American market subsidizes the health care of all the non-free-market countries such as Canada or the U.K.

Thanks to Amity Shlaes for identifying Asness in her column “The Man Who Talked Back….

<snip>

Read Asness: “Furthermore, for some reason I was not born with the common sense to keep it to myself, though my title should more accurately be called “Not Afraid Enough” as I am indeed fearful writing this… It’s really a bad idea to speak out.” The point is not to fearmonger. It is that the President’s displeasure matters disproportionately.

Shlaes noted that Asness was highlighted in the Powerline piece “A bully in the white house”.
