This is good news:
According to Subarjo, some 88 percent of the Indonesian population of 201 million, or about 176.88 million, are Moslems. However, only 1.6 percent of them, or about 1.71 million, are Sharia bank customers.
The reason why the number of Sharia bank customers in Indonesia was still so low, Subarjo said that in the country with its secular political system, all the frames of the prevailing political and economic system have been integrated in a capitalistic form.
“In such a situation, the sharia banks developed under a dual banking system within the framework of an economic capitalistic system which is also applied in Malaysia, Egypt and Singapore,” he said.
