I’ve had a small amount of correspondence with Prof. Per Peterson on the topic of nuclear plant economics. Dr. Peterson is one of the very top U.S. nuclear scientists, and the UC Berkeley research reflects this. Example, Kirk Sorenson links to the US Berkeley AHTR site — just chock full of useful information and data:
Per Peterson and his team have a very nice new website up describing the Pebble-Bed, Advanced High-Temperature Reactor work at UC Berkeley. The balance-of-plant beyond the intermediate heat exchanger is identical to LFTR, which means developing PB-AHTR would develop many of the systems needed for LFTR.
I wish we had the bandwidth to download prof. Peterson’s excellent presentation (about one hour duration).
